Apple Shaker Play

Because we are loving this cooler weather, we continued on with some fall themed play and reading.
We read The Apple Tree which was an easy reader book of the familiar poem.

Way up high in the apple tree,
Two little apples smiled at me,
So I shook that tree as hard as I could,
Down came the apples,
Mmmm, mmmm they were good.

We created apple shakers by coloring paper plates red and adding a face, filling with beans (if you had enough apple seeds, you could use those), and gluing together. They would be really cute if you painted the paper plates red, but I was painted out last week! Also, I meant to add a green stem from construction paper before gluing.

After we made our shakers, the boys performed their poem!

I found this project in a unit for preschoolers at Hubbard's cupboard and thought it would work well for my toddler unit.

This was another idea that Teach Preschool shared on facebook earlier this week to extend this poem using a felt board!

  1. Oh, I love the video! So cute. The apple shaker craft is the perfect activity for that poem. Never would have thought of it myself.

  2. What a great idea. We are rowing How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World this week and next, and this would be a fun thing to do with our extra seeds. We are cutting up lots of apples.
I haven't heard of this poem before. Thanks for sharing.

  3. This looks fun! Your boys are just adorable and thoroughly enjoying those shakers! :)

  4. Lovely video - and nice and noisy shakers!

Lovely to see you at the Play Academy :)
