Book Review: All About Poop

"Have you ever wondered all about poop and why our bodies make such stinky goop?" Has your preschooler ever wondered all about poop, loudly, in a Target check out line? Ok, please tell me I'm not the only one whose preschool boys can get fixated on the topics of poop, farts, and plumbing??????
All About Poop by Kate Hayes has been the perfect solution to our poop questions. This story begins with a boy asking the very question of the readers, "Have you ever wondered all about poop and why our bodies make such stinky goop?" The main character then takes readers on a journey of the digestive system, followed by a quick overview of modern plumbing, and then he reminds readers of proper poop procedures. This book covers all these informational topics in a catchy rhyming verse. There are illustrations to accompany the text which provides great scientific information on the digestive system. There are also funny illustrations that keep the attention of my boys. This book provides more than just the basic potty training knowledge that everyone poops. It provides preschoolers with a working knowledge of the basics of poop.
While my boys enjoy the silly illustrations like a picture of parachuting poop, I enjoy that the book provides an informative look at an engaging topic. As a mom, I also appreciate that this book focuses on poop etiquette. It addresses hand washing, cleanliness, and  appropriate times to talk about poop. My four year old thinks it's hilarious when I read the book's instructions, "Don't be a potty mouth!" Maybe he'll catch on and make his Target questions a little more discrete.
Full Disclosure: The author of the book is award winning mom blogger, Kate Hayes. She is also a very good friend of mine. In fact, when we were young college girls, I even shared a bathroom with her... which she helped to keep clean and smelling fresh!
This is not a sponsored post. I purchased this book as soon as it was available (Of course, I had gotten a sneak peak of the first draft so I knew it would be worth it!)

Here's Where I am sharing:
Book Sharing Monday,What My Child is Reading,

  1. The book looks like fun! Brace yourself - my daughter is almost 6 and still finds body functions endlessly amusing and fascinating :) Thanks for joining WMCIR!

  2. How fun you know an author and her book is useful and timely for you. Pinned! Carolyn

  3. I have two boys who love anything about poop and bodily functions! This looks like a fun book for them. Thanks for linking up to The Children's Bookshelf!

  4. Jackie, you are the best. Thank you so much for writing this wonderful review of the book!! (And no - I didn't ask her to do it because I didn't want to make her feel like she had to write a good one!) I'm so glad you and the boys are loving the book. And also - I should point out to all that I asked Jackie to review this manuscript before I ever sent it to a publisher, so really, she was the first one to give the official thumbs up. I remember that her response started with..."First of all, you are really brave to be writing a book about poop..." Yeah. I know. :)
