How to find good ebooks for kids

ebooks for kids, literacy, reading, ready set read

Finding good ebooks for kids can be challenging. While it's a blessing for the kids of this age to have so many wonderful books literally at their fingertips, it can be challenging to wade through the hundreds of thousands that are available.
An ebook is a book that can be read online or downloaded to a personal computer, book reader, phone, etc. Many ebooks are digital versions of books that are already in print.

We Give Books We Give Books are free books you can read online with your child. You don't have to download or buy any software. There are current favorites like Skippy John Jones, Ladybug Girl, Llama Llama books. There are also classic books like The Snowy Day. There is a wide selection of nonfiction as well.  Not only do you get free books to read, every time you read a book, books are donated to a charity. We give books was created by Penguin group and the Pearson Foundation.
Starfall is a free online site that includes animated books. These are mostly phonics readers and some can be read aloud.

TumbleBooks is not a free site but many public libraries and schools have a subscription that you can use. These are print books that have been animated and have sound added to them. There are some wonderful titles as this site and it's worth checking out to see if you can use it for free through your child's school or your public library.

Oxford Owl This is a a free website by Oxford University Press to help you with your child’s learning.   It includes many free ebooks (over 250). You can read these books directly on the site. You can also turn on audio and have the story read to the child. I like this site because you can sort by age level. There is a good mix of fiction and nonfiction as well. You can also purchase print copies of some of the books. There are comprehension activities included for each story most are games that the child can play on the site but some are printable activities. There are also math ebooks. The preschool math books work concepts like shapes and counting.

Story Online These are animated picture books that are read by famous actors. This website is supported by the screen actors guild. You can listen to Betty White read your child "Harry the Dirty Dog". There are only 25 stories on this site but they are all high quality books and they are well done!

Almost all of our favorite ebooks were made by OceanHouse media. They have tons of Dr. Seuss, The Berenstein Bears, 5 Little Monkeys. many classics, and some new titles. They are very well made and have animations and read aloud options. They can be pricer than some other book apps but every one has been worth the money-- plus, they often have a few for just .99.
