While the book does provide hope for producing a sea shell garden, we had to do a little experimenting ourselves. We posed the question, "Will a jellybean grow a jellybean bush?"
We decided to try and sprout two different kinds of beans- navy beans and jelly beans. We talked about the differences in the beans. Mommy cut them apart so we could examine both beans. We even looked at them with a magnifying glass. (I had not thought ahead that a preschooler would not understand how to use a magnifying glass. It was a very teachable moment and my four year old, loved experimenting with the magnifying glass.)
We then put beans into plastic bags with a moist paper towel.
We will check back to see which ones sprout. Mommy is holding out hope for a jellybean bush!
Love this idea! It would be a great way to start our plant unit! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteGreat connection! :)
Thanks for the info about the blog hop.
Firstly you have a fabulous site. Second, the book and ideas are great, and we have a budding 20 month old gardener, who likes to dig and plant a variety of non organic items, lol so this book will be right up her ally. Thanks for linking in to the Kid Lit Blog Hop, we hope to see you back again. Cheers Julie Grasso

ReplyDeleteJust wanted you to know I am featuring you this week on Mom's Library! Oh, and I'm with Erin, if the jellybean grows, you should plant a dollar tree too!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Thanks for the feature, Ashley. I'll check it out tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the jelly bean molded... so my chances of growing a dollar are looking slim. sigh
