About me

My name is Jackie. I am the mom of two preschool boys, Tyson and Logan-- ages 3 and 4. I spent 8 years teaching grades 1,4,5. For two years I worked as a reading specialist teaching reading recovery teacher and early literacy groups. When I had my first baby, I decided to take a break from the classroom and focus my teaching at home. I still wanted to connect with other educators and learn as much as I could so I would be ready to return to the classroom in the future. I began ready-set-read.com to share my ideas and connect with others.  In addition to writing at ready-set-read.com, I contribute to Connect-a-Blog (a collaborative teacher blog K-12 with over 50 teachers sharing amazing resources) and I am on the advisory board for We Teach (a free forum for educators). I also co-lead the We're Bloggers group at We Teach which is a great place for teacher bloggers to connect!

  15. Hi Jackie! I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found you! My little one is a little lover of books and we think she will likely be an early reader. She is already identifying letters and numbers that surprise us. I will have to follow you in every way I can in order to get lots of your good tips! So excited!
    Leah @ Simple. Home. Blessings.

  16. Thanks Leah!
That's how my oldest son was with books and he is ready already at four! Of course, my youngest could care less about books and developed his speech very slowly. He has always been better motor skills (He walked very early and is very coordinated but he just started talking clearly). So, I've been challenged to think about literacy for kids with two very different learning styles. It's been interesting. ha!
I hope you find activities that your little one will enjoy and will help grow into a little reader. Good to connect with you.
    Jackie
