In this story, a young lady named Katy is invited to the Queen's castle for a birthday party of the Queen's grandson, Prince Will. Katy is a wonderful young girl with one bad habit, blowing bubbles. In preparation for her appearance before the Queen, she decides to give up bubble blowing. When she appears before the Queen, however, a bubble appears and Katy is covered in bubblegum goo. Katy is not the person responsible for the bubble and so she sets off to find the person who blew the giant bubble. She ends up meeting someone who will be pretty important in her future!! In the end, the Queen learns to accept bubble blowing children.
Book ReviewWe enjoyed Bubblegum Princess by Julie Gribble and illustrated by Lori Hanson. The storyline was funny. My boys related well to it. They are big time gum chewers and it was a good lead to talk about responsible gum chewing. They also thought it was funny to think of all the bad things that could happen with bubblegum. They also loved the pictures of the Queen's dogs joining the gum chewing craze.
The text was well written with rhyme and alliteration that was catchy. The illustrations were drenched in pink but my boys still enjoyed this "pinkalicious" story because of the cartoon type people.
